They are permanently installed on structures and equipment to be protected against the destructive effects of lightning. Both Franklin and ESEs must comply with the specific regulations to ensure their correct installation and operation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lightning is an atmospheric electrostatic discharge that originates from the build-up of electric charge in clouds. When the charge exceeds an electric field threshold, electrical discharges can occur when the downward leader or tracer leaves the cloud and comes close enough to the ground for one or more grounded points to produce corona discharges that will become the upward leader or tracer. Connecting both creates a discharge path along which the lightning current will flow from the cloud to ground.<\/p>\n<p>Early Streamer Emission (ESE) Air Terminals represent an important technological innovation in lightning protection compared to passive lightning rods or Franklin rods. They emit the upward tracer continuously before any other object within their protection radius, thus covering a larger area of coverage.<\/p>\n<p>The defining parameter for ESEs is their time of advance (\u0394T), i.e. the difference between the emission time of the upward leader and that of a Franklin rod, measured in a high-voltage laboratory under the conditions described in the stringent lightning protection standards for ESEs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.une.org\/encuentra-tu-norma\/busca-tu-norma\/norma\/?c=N0048559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNE 21186:2011<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/es.scribd.com\/document\/414670298\/Norma-Nfc-17-102\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NF C 17-102<\/a>). The longer the ESE anticipates the formation of the upward tracer, the longer distance it will capture the downward tracer. By doing so, the advance time of the ESE determines its protection radius.. This time provides a higher protection volume, applicable even in open areas and objects on rooftops and around buildings.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/at3w.com\/en\/smart-lightning\/dat-controler-remote-smart-air-terminal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DAT CONTROLER\u00ae REMOTE<\/a><\/strong> smart Early Streamer Emission (ESE) Air Terminal is an innovative technological development of the R&amp;D&amp;I department of Aplicaciones Tecnol\u00f3gicas S.A. It contains an electro-pulsating generator that emits high-voltage electrical impulses, for which it is powered only by the atmospheric electric field. This generator is in standby mode in non-storm conditions. When storm conditions start, the generator is activated and remains in a pre-control state until the downward tracer is within its range. At that time, it emits the upward tracer which will form the path for the lightning discharge. The lightning current passes down the outer body of the ESE to be conducted to earth, without damaging the internal circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike other ESEs, DAT CONTROLER\u00ae REMOTE is a fully autonomous, maintenance-free, self-diagnostic device with Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Requirements_to_be_fulfilled_by_ESE_lightning_arresters\"><\/span><strong>Requirements to be fulfilled by ESE lightning arresters<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Any Air Terminal with an ESE device must at least meet the current standards. The latest edition of the UNE 21186, NF C 17-102 and NP 4426 standards requires the tests to be carried out <strong>consecutively and on the same sample.<\/strong> In other words, it is not valid to use a different arrester for each test, as it is essential to ensure the inalterability of the elements against different environmental agents and extreme conditions of use.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, four tests are carried out:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Salt atmosphere test: the arrester is subjected to corrosive environmental conditions such as those that may be present in seaside, industrial or large urban areas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On the same sample, it is carried out:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Sulphurous atmosphere test: a humid atmosphere with sulphur dioxide is generated, which simulates industrial pollution (acid rain effect), especially relevant for industrial environments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once the test is passed, it is continued on the same sample:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Current test: the lightning protection standards assume as direct lightning discharge wave a double exponential with rise time 10 \u00b5s (up to 90% of the peak value), peak value 100 kA and trailing time 350 \u03bcs (up to 50% of its peak value). Therefore, in the current test, 3 impulses of 100 kA with 10\/350 \u03bcs wave are applied to the arrester. This ensures the correct functioning of the arrester after repeated lightning currents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Advance Time test: this test is carried out after the previous tests, to ensure that the product maintains its main characteristic (the advance time ), even after enduring corrosive environmental conditions and high energy discharges. This \u0394T factor determines the protection radius of the ESE arrester. To be considered an ESE, the time of advance must be greater than 10 \u00b5s. In addition, the deviation of results obtained for the ESE must be less than 0.8 multiplied by the deviation of a Franklin rod.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"DAT_CONTROLER%C2%AE_REMOTE_beyond_regulatory_requirements\"><\/span><strong>DAT CONTROLER\u00ae REMOTE, beyond regulatory requirements<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>However, performing only the tests required by the standards is not enough to guarantee the correct operation of an ESE Air Terminal at all times and under the most demanding conditions. For example, although only 3 impulses of 100 kA are required in the standard tests, the same standard defines Protection Level I as being able to withstand 99% of lightning strikes, which according to statistics corresponds to a peak current of 200 kA.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, heavy rain conditions could cause the arrester to short-circuit, turning the ESE Air Terminal into a high-cost Franklin rod. This is because an Early Streamer Emission (ESE) device requires two isolated electrodes: one at atmospheric potential and the other at ground potential. The power supply to the arrester is provided by the high potential difference that occurs between these electrodes in storm conditions. If the insulation is lost, this will result in a short-circuit of the ignitor, which will lose its main characteristic (the time of advance, \u0394T). The protection area will therefore be drastically reduced to that provided by a conventional Franklin rod, leaving unprotected areas. To avoid these effects, it is necessary to guarantee the insulation of the ESE Air Terminals in the event of rain, snow, ice, hail, etc., which could render the internal circuit unusable.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, the <strong>ESE DAT CONTROLER REMOTE<\/strong> lightning arrester of Aplicaciones Tecnol\u00f3gicas S.A. not only meets all the demanding tests of the regulations with the highest quality controls, but also has a series of additional characteristics that make it a unique and the most complete ESE Air Terminal currently available on the market.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Product certificate with the N seal of AENOR<\/strong>, the highest auditing entity in Spain. This mark ensures that the <strong>DAT CONTROLER\u00ae REMOTE<\/strong> lightning arrester complies with AENOR&#8217;s special regulation RP 058 for lightning conductors with an ESE device. The tests are carried out in official independent laboratories and, in addition, AENOR technicians periodically verify that the required control parameters are met in the production samples.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extended lightning current stress test<\/strong>. While the current test within the standard requires the ESE to be subjected to 3 impulses of 100 kA with 10\/350 \u03bcs wave, DAT CONTROLER\u00ae REMOTE is additionally subjected to 20 impulses of 200 kA and 5 impulses of 250 kA with 10\/350 \u03bcs wave. Using 20 pulses of 200 kA (the peak current for Protection Level I), it is demonstrated that <strong>DAT CONTROLER\u00ae REMOTE<\/strong> is a lightning arrester suitable for the most restrictive Protection Level. Furthermore, of the 20 impulses, 10 are of positive polarity and 10 of negative polarity, ensuring the operation of <strong>DAT CONTROLER\u00ae REMOTE<\/strong> against all possible lightning events.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functioning in rainy conditions (insulation greater than 95%)<\/strong>, in accordance with UNE-EN 60060-1:2012.
