Bien que le climat soit devenu insens\u00e9, certains ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes atmosph\u00e9riques naturels inhabituels et spectaculaires se produisaient d\u00e9j\u00e0.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Que_sont_les_coups_de_foudre_volcaniques\"><\/span><strong>Que sont les coups de foudre volcaniques?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Une \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e dans la revue <em>Science<\/em> indique que les charges \u00e9lectriques des volcans proviennent de la collision de fragments de roches, de cendres et de particules de glace dans une colonne de fum\u00e9e volcanique. C&rsquo;est alors que des charges statiques sont produites de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re que la foudre na\u00eet dans un orage ordinaire, sauf que dans ces occasions, elles sont produites lorsque seules des particules de glace entrent en collision. Les \u00e9ruptions volcaniques lib\u00e8rent \u00e9galement de grandes quantit\u00e9s d&rsquo;eau, qui peuvent contribuer \u00e0 la production de ces orages \u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n<p>La premi\u00e8re observation enregistr\u00e9e remonte \u00e0 l&rsquo;an 79, lorsqu\u2019un romain, Pline le Jeune, d\u00e9crit l&rsquo;\u00e9ruption du V\u00e9suve. Cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement s&rsquo;est traduit par des lettres et des images marquantes de ce moment de l&rsquo;histoire : des foules enti\u00e8res ont observ\u00e9 un nuage sillonn\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9clairs de feu qui cachait la lumi\u00e8re du soleil \u00e0 Pomp\u00e9i. Les premi\u00e8res \u00e9tudes scientifiques sur les coups de foudre volcaniques ou \u00ab orages sales \u00bb ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es sur ce m\u00eame volcan par le professeur Luigi Palmieri lors des \u00e9ruptions de 1858, 1861, 1868 et 1872.<\/p>\n<p>Des recherches publi\u00e9es en 2008 dans le Journal de la volcanologie ont montr\u00e9 qu&rsquo;entre 27 % et 35 % des \u00e9ruptions sont accompagn\u00e9es de ces lueurs (\u00e9clairs). Des \u00ab\u00a0orages sales\u00a0\u00bb spectaculaires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 photographi\u00e9s dans diverses r\u00e9gions du monde, comme le volcan Chait\u00e9n au Chili, le Colima au Mexique, le Mont Augustin en Alaska et, en Europe, le volcan Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull en Islande et l&rsquo;Etna en Sicile.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Comment_se_forment_les_coups_de_foudre_volcaniques\"><\/span><strong>Comment se forment les coups de foudre volcaniques?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>La friction entre les particules de gr\u00eale et les gouttelettes d&rsquo;eau situ\u00e9es dans la partie sup\u00e9rieure des cumulonimbus (nuages d&rsquo;orage), induit la ionisation de l&rsquo;air et \u00e9tablit d&rsquo;importantes diff\u00e9rences de potentiel entre certaines parties du nuage et d&rsquo;autres parties de celui-ci. Cela finit par g\u00e9n\u00e9rer les coups de foudre ou \u00e9clairs \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur des nuages et aussi ceux qui atteignent d&rsquo;autres nuages ou se d\u00e9chargent sur le sol.<\/p>\n<p>Dans le cas de la foudre volcanique, des conditions similaires doivent \u00eatre pr\u00e9sentes dans les nuages de cendres et \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur du nuage d&rsquo;orage.<\/p>\n<p>Les cendres et les pyroclastes \u00e9ject\u00e9s par un volcan sont initialement neutres (sans charge \u00e9lectrique), mais la friction entre eux dans un environnement nettement hostile (br\u00fblant) entra\u00eene la lib\u00e9ration d&rsquo;ions dans le panache volcanique.<\/p>\n<p>Ce n&rsquo;est que lorsque cela se produit, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire lorsque le nuage volcanique pr\u00e9sente des diff\u00e9rences de charges \u00e9lectriques, que des coups de foudre ou \u00e9clairs volcaniques sont produits.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Consequences_et_curiosites_concernant_la_foudre_volcanique\"><\/span><strong>Cons\u00e9quences et curiosit\u00e9s concernant la foudre volcanique<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Une cons\u00e9quence importante de ces orages est qu&rsquo;ils peuvent affecter les communications : la foudre peut interf\u00e9rer et avoir un impact n\u00e9gatif pour l&rsquo;aviation.<\/p>\n<p>De plus, les communications radio seraient affect\u00e9es \u00e0 la fois dans les airs et dans les a\u00e9roports voisins. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.giseis.alaska.edu\/input\/steve\/PUBS\/McNutt-Williams-BV.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Une \u00e9tude de Stephen R. McNutt et Earle R. Williams<\/a>, respectivement de l&rsquo;Institut g\u00e9ophysique d&rsquo;Alaska et de l&rsquo;Institut du Massachusetts, ratifie que \u00ab\u00a0la foudre et l&rsquo;\u00e9lectrification des volcans sont importantes parce qu&rsquo;elles repr\u00e9sentent un danger en soi, qu&rsquo;elles sont un composant du circuit \u00e9lectrique global et qu&rsquo;elles contribuent \u00e0 l&rsquo;agr\u00e9gation des particules et \u00e0 la modification des colonnes de cendres.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Les volcans en \u00e9ruption sont capables de provoquer des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes d&rsquo;une ampleur consid\u00e9rable. Une \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e dans <em>Scientific Reports<\/em> par Andrew Pata, chercheur postdoctoral au \u00ab\u00a0Centro Nacional de Supercomputaci\u00f3n\u00a0\u00bb, ou Supercomputing Center, de Barcelone, d\u00e9crit que l&rsquo;eau de mer \u00e9vapor\u00e9e du volcan Anak Krakatoa en Indon\u00e9sie a charg\u00e9 un orage volcanique qui a dur\u00e9 six jours et provoqu\u00e9 plus de 100 000 coups de foudre entre le 22 et le 28 d\u00e9cembre 2018.
