Aplicaciones Tecnológicas SA and the private accredited professional training entity ISQ Academy have signed a protocol for training and certification in Lightning Protection Systems, mandatory since 2022. In this way, the qualification of Portuguese professionals is adapted to new legal requirements in the Fire Safety in Buildings (FSB) field. The first edition will start on 9 November 2022.
The collaboration protocol between ISQ Academy and Aplicaciones Tecnológicas S.A. aims to establish a framework for cooperation, taking advantage of the potential for the action of both entities to raise the level of qualification of professionals working in the FSB sector (Fire Safety in Buildings), specifically in the area of lightning protection.
The first phase of action is the qualification and certification, compulsory from February 2022, of technicians in the FSB sector in the installation and maintenance of lightning rods. In this way, the course given by Aplicaciones Tecnológicas S.A. and ISQ presents specific training in this area, as well as the standards to be adopted by the person responsible for the installation to ensure adequate protection against direct and indirect lightning strikes.
Lightning protection in fire safety: what the regulation says
Using directive nº 10738/2011, on 23 August 2011, published in the official bulletin Diário da República, 2nd edition, nº 166, on 30 August, the rules for the accreditation of technicians responsible for the commercialisation, installation and maintenance of fire safety products and equipment in buildings were established.
Afterwards, a new directive (nº 11832/2021) was published on 30 November 2021; in which the qualification of the responsible technicians is revised and updated, to raise the quality of the services provided related to fire safety equipment and systems.
This regulation establishes in its requirements specific mandatory training for technicians responsible for installing and maintaining FSB in the new equipment and systems introduced by the 208/2020 regulation, including lightning protection systems.
The regulation with the new rules came into force on 28 February 2022. According to this regulation, FSB technicians must receive this training (General and Specific) before being able to register at the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) to carry out their work.
To enable Portuguese professionals to comply with the current legislation, Aplicaciones Tecnológicas S.A. provides its specialists with 28 hours of training, both theoretical and practical, for the correct design, installation and maintenance of Lightning Protection Systems (LPS).
