Predictive maintenance: what it is and how to achieve it with smart technology
Predictive maintenance is a technique that uses data analysis to detect anomalies in the operation of equipment and processes. The maintenance of any installation is vital for its proper functioning and, consequently, for achieving operational and financial efficiency within a company, as well as ensuring occupational safety. In addition to digital twins, the monitoring of the grounding system with smart technology carried out by Aplicaciones Tecnológicas is based on sensors that collect data and send it via IoT technology so that trained AI algorithms can detect faults before they occur, thus saving costs and minimising risks.
Exothermic welding: the differences between various types of unions for earthing systems and their characteristics
The design and execution of an earthing system is a fundamental step in any type of construction. A good state of an electrical facility is vital for any modern facility, whether industrial or civil, due to the large number of processes carried out by elements connected to it. The connection of metallic elements of an earthing system can be carried out mechanically or by welding (such exothermic welding), although not all of these types of connection ensure reliable and, above all, long-lasting connections.

Upcoming free online webinars for professionals: June 2026
Aplicaciones Tecnológicas puts its 40 years of experience to offer free webinars aimed at professionals involved in the design of lightning protection systems and safety against electrical storms, design and implementation of earthing and surge protection systems.
When is a lightning rod required?
The only short answer to this question is: it is always advisable to install a lightning rod to protect people and buildings against atmospheric electrical discharges. However, the requirements for this protection vary according to a wide range of parameters, such as the lightning density in the area, the dimensions of the structure, its use or the material from which it is made. For this reason, lightning protection standards include a risk calculation which, in some countries, is incorporated into regulations that make this analysis mandatory. In addition, the unpredictability of the phenomenon and its high destructive power mean that, in certain circumstances and according to some local regulations, installation changes from being advisable to being compulsory. In any case, the installation of a lightning protection system (LPS) requires the specific technical method for the correct design of that system to be followed, in accordance with the applicable standards.
