A lightning event counter that can be added to an existing installation without cutting the down-conductor
Lightning event counters are very useful tools in lightning protection installations, since they allow to find out easily if the installation has suffer a lightning strike and therefore if there is a need for a verification or extra maintenance beyond the periodical inspections according the provisions of the standard UNE 21186:2011.
Lightning protection for high buildings
During its formation lightning moves in any direction, but only until it finds a way to ground: then the path for the discharge is already created. High buildings are therefore preferred points for lightning strikes, so that risk assessment standards consider, for calculating the equivalent collection area of a structure, a surface of 3 times its height around. Besides, according to these standards, for buildings higher than 60 meters lateral impacts should also be considered.
